Worksheet Wednesday!!

It's Hump Day again!!  Man, the school year keeps creeping closer and closer, doesn't it!?!?  Today I am teaming up with The Teaching Tribune for their last Worksheet Wednesday of their Summer Bloggin' linky parties.  Sad face for it being the last one!!

Today I'd like to share with you one of my kinders' favorite activities.  I introduce this activity during a small group math lesson, and then I make sure it is available for students so that they can use it during our Daily 3 Math rotations too!  They really love this little game, and it's a great one to use during the beginning of the school year!  Click on the picture below to head over to my TPT store and grab a copy for yourself!!

In this little packet, you get two versions of the shape worksheet and a copy of the shape cube students will need to roll.  I made enough cubes for a small group lesson, so I didn't need to make a whole class set.  If you just want to use this at a center, you'll need even less cubes.

This worksheet version uses a dashed line with a smiley face showing the littles where to start tracing the shape.

The cube covers the BASIC shapes that we focus on during the beginning of the year in my kindergarten classroom.  I don't introduce the 'many-sided' shapes or the 3D shapes until later in the year, since so many of my littles come to me not being able to recognize many of these basic shapes.

I have my kinders roll the cube, find that shape on their worksheet, and then trace it with a marker or a highlighter.  I also let them color each shape.  Sometimes I have them play as partners, taking turn rolling and tracing until one of them is able to fill up their whole page.

My kinders really enjoyed this game last year, and I can't wait to use it again this year!!

They really enjoyed tossing the cube to get their next shape!

Once the cube lands, they find that shape on their page.  I have them tell me what the shape is before they trace it.

After tracing, they can color in the shapes.  This little activity kept them engaged in the lesson as well as actively participating.  They even asked of they could do it again, which is always a good sign!!

I hope that you are able to use this little freebie in your classroom, and don't forget to head over to The Teaching Tribune to see what the other awesome bloggers have offered up for Worksheet Wednesday!!
